Imphal, November 29: Catholic Medical Centre, Koirengei has notched up the first of a kind in the State, when a team of Cardiologists, led by Dr Dhanaraj Chongtham MD, DM (Cardiology) successfully conducted a complicated surgery to cure a heart ailment known medically as Proximal Left Anterior Descending Artery of the Heart on a 55 year, old man, M Ibobi, from Langthabal today morning.

Briefing the media, Dr Dhanaraj said that he led the team on the request of the patient's family and CMC authority.

Giving details of the complicated surgery, the doctor said that the operation procedure involved opening the blocked or medically known as Stenosed vessels of the heart.

Such blockade occurs as a result of Atherosclerotic Plaque deposition leading to the heart, he said and added that the patient on whom the operation was carried out today suffered a heart attack a few weeks back.

The doctor further informed that a Coronary Angio Plasty conducted on the patient earlier showed that he had a 90 pc blockade in one of the main vessels of the heart.

To clear the blockade, the doctors used the Angio Plasty (PTCA) procedure, and inserted a Cyther, which is the world's number 1 drug illuting stent.

The cost of such an operation is high, but if the patient had to go outside the State the expenditure would have doubled.

The other team member included Dr Rajat Sharma MD, DM (Cardiology).
