Works Minister Kangujam Ranjit Singh had a busy official outing today speeding from the city limits to the capital district's interiors on a whirlwind inspection tour of ongoing development works as well as site assessment of forthcoming schemes.
The Koirengei to Khabam Lamkhai section of the National Highway 39, whose deplorable conditions evoked violent protest from the local residents, is all set to undergo repairing/development from next month onwards.
According to the Minister any sign or instances of lack of quality control in the work would not be tolerated.
Interacting with media persons after the inspection survey of the road stretch today, the Minister informed that black topping of the said route would begin from the eastern side and set a target of 10 days to complete the same.
While observing that the western side of the road still requires fresh WBM work that would consume time, he nevertheless expressed confidence of finishing all relevant works within November.
Apart from affirming that he had been personally studying the route frequently and preparing for expeditious commencement of the repairing/development works, Ranjit along with officials of department concerned monitored functioning of the Porompat Hot Mix Plant which was reactivated on oct 26.The Minister-official entourage also proceeded for site inspection of constructing a bailey bridge over Nambul River near Keishampat Thokchom Leikai with the Minister announcing on the spot that works would begin in two days time.
Assessing progress of ongoing repairing works along the Uripok-Kangchup road also figured in the Minister's itinerary today.
Ranjit's compact schedule for the day had commenced with an early morning tour to Konthoujam AC in the company of Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Dr S Budhichandra where conditions of roads were scanned.
The tour of Konthoujam Ac covered the road stretch that links Yurembam (NH-53) to Nambol Phoijing (NH-150) via Bamdiar.
speaking to Yurembam locals, Minister Ranjit declared that Rs 1 crore under the Special Plan Assistance would be earmarked for sprucing up the route and that work would start next month.
Further heading towards Kangmong side from Nambol the Minister pledged to take up repairing/black topping works of inter-village road in Kangmong, Heikrujam and Sajirok in the 2008-09 fiscal.
He also inspected the Heibongpokpi to Khaidem and Sagoltongba to Konthoujam roads.
