Imphal, August 28:
Along with the agreement on filling up the dug up State Highways for laying the pipelines of the proposed Imphal Sewerage Project being taken up under the Public Health Department with sand and gravel chips, the remaining task of laying the pipelines, which had been stalled for sometime, would resume from tomorrow.
A decision to this effect was arrived at during a joint meeting of the Ministers and officials concerned of the two Departments chaired by the Chief Minister today.
Disclosing this while talking to some reporters at his office chamber this evening, PHE Minister TN Haokip said that at the time of preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) of the Imphal Sewerage Project no mention had been made on filling up the dug up roads with sand and stone chips.
An estimated amount of Rs 14.30 crores would be required for the purpose and the Chief Minister has been kind enough to make the arrangement from the State Plan amount, he added.
The Minister contended that it is quite natural to face some initial hiccups and difficulties in taking up the Imphal Sewerage project since such a project is being implemented for the first time in the North East region.
The task of laying the pipelines along the State Highways would resume but the clearance for digging up the National Highways is still awaited, he informed.
With a total estimated project cost of Rs 147 crores, the Imphal Sewerage Project is being taken up in collaboration with France Government.
The total State plan amount for the project is Rs 93 crores while France Government would provide the required machineries and other materials worth Rs 54 crores.
