Ist Meetei Mayek TET held amidst bandh

Imphal, April 28 2013: As assured by Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro Singh on November 9, 2012, the first ever Teacher Eligibity Test (TET) for Meetei Mayek was held today in 22 different centres across Imphal amidst the total bandh being called by some Zeliangrong bodies along the NHs over the case of Alice Kamei.

Altogether 6035 candidates appeared in the examination.

No reports of using unfair means or expulsion of candidates from the examination hall have been reported.

Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao in connection with the TET conducted today, Babudhon Sapamcha, Joint Secretary of Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur, informed that in all 6456 candidates had submitted forms for appearing in the examination.

Out of these, 6035 candidates appeared in the exam today as 421 candidates did not turn up while 127 candidates did not come to collect their admit cards at all.

Babudhon further informed that among the total number of candidates who appeared in the first ever TET for Meetei Mayek, 26 of them are differently-abled persons, including one blind candidate; 179 are Schedule Tribe candidates, 434 Schedule Caste candidates, 4374 OBC candidates while 1443 are candidates belonging to General Category.

The results of TET held today would be declared within a month's time, he added.

While narrating the difficulties faced in coming down to Imphal for appearing in the TET, a candidate from Jiribam told Hueiyen Lanpao that although 30 candidates have submitted forms for appearing in the TET from Jiribam sub-division, not more than seven of them could come to appear in the examination today on account of the indefinite total bandh being called jointly by Zeliangrong Students Union, Manipur (ZSUM); All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AZSU-AMN) and Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF-AMN)in all the National Highways of the State.

The candidate disclosed all the seven of them have separately come on flight spending around Rs 8,000 .

"Coming to appear in TET in this manner is indeed unfortunate for the candidates.

Those calling the total bandh should have at least considered the problems to be faced by the candidates coming from far flung places and relax the bandh.

Or the concerned authority should have postponed the exam", the candidate suggested.

Meanwhile, Sapam Geeta, Chairperson, Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur has praised the efforts of candidates who have come down to Imphal from different parts of the State to appear in the exam and said that the response of the general public has clearly indicated that TET for Meetei Mayek has gained a lot of public support.
