ATSUM resumes economic blockade

Adding more teeth in the charter of demands put before the Govt, the All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur has gone ahead and imposed economic-blockades along the State's two lifelines, as announced earlier.
NNN reports that 70 loaded trucks are stranded at Mao Gate.
'We resumed the economic blockade last night, that was suspended in the first week of March,' ATSUM President Thomas Taishya told reporters at the CDSU administrative office here.
Elaborating , he said the absence of rules for implementation of the Tribal Reservation Act adopted in 2006 have caused the tribals a great deal of jobs.
'We want the Govt to formulate the necessary rules for implementation of the 2007 Act before any major recruitment is undertaken,' he said adding, 'if the Govt does not want tribals, then that's fine.
Let them come out clearly'.
On the pressing issue of appointing senior MCS officers as executive directors, he said ATSUM is not against the MCS officers or the ADC Chairmen but the policy of dividing the tribals and diluting the sole reliable institution.
Centrally sponsored schemes that are implemented through the DCs were the only benefits the tribals .

Why the government and newly elected MDCs don't concentrate in something that is not working rather than disturbing what is already working, he retorted.
Meanwhile CDSU conveys its concern over the undue delay in implementation and execution of centrally sponsored schemes including mini secretariat, FCI godown, mini stadium, youth hostel and the Guite road and Tipaimukh road.
It also urged upon the authority to immediately commence execution of the said schemes.
