Lamka, November 20:
Following the Churachandpur District Students' Union's instructions to discard any form of Meetei Mayek within the district, its activists today confiscated a good number of Mayek books from at least six institutions and set them ablaze later in the evening.
CDSU activists entered the campus of various leading institutions in the district including Blue Star Academy, Don Bosco, Rayburn, L Foundation and confiscated the Mayek books from the students in the presence of media representatives.

Meitei Mayek books consigned to flames
While some institutions had withdrawn the teaching of Mayek following the CDSU instructions, some were found teaching the Mayek to the students.
The bulk of the confiscated texts were from students of classes I and II.
Besides the confiscated text, a question paper for the final examination of a particular institution was also consigned to flames today.
CDSU had in the past blackened all signboards and hoardings displaying Meitei Mayek in the district and had threatened institutions with closure if their instructions were not followed.
Moments after the books were set to flames local police rushed to the spot , only to be greeted with the charred remains of the books.
