Imphal, January 19 2010:
As part of the agitation being launched by the Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of All Manipur Trade Union Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government Employees' Organisation (AMGEO) in pursuance of the demand for extension of 6th Central Pay Commission along with arrears, JAC members and other Government employees today conducted inspection of Government offices to find out whether anybody is attending offices in defiance of the ceasework call.
The joint inspection team visited the Government offices located in Lamphel area of Imphal West district including DC Imphal West, Fisheries, Registrar, Settlement, Employment Exchange, Education (S), Industries, Co-operative as well as Electricity Department in Keishampat, Education and Treasury offices to find out whether the employees are supporting the agitation of the JAC or not.
Employees who were found in these offices also came out to help the JAC team in the inspection.
Later talking to media-persons, secretary in-charge of administration of the JAC Inaomacha observed that announcement of the State Government that the arrears would not be given to its employees at the time of extending the benefit of 6th Central Pay Commission which has already been implemented in other States of the country long time back, is unfortunate.
Implementation of 6th Pay Commission is not a State issue.
It is a National issue.
So, the Government of Manipur should be ashamed of itself in front of other State Governments, he said.
Rejecting the assurance of the Chief Minister that arrear would be given after the 13th Commission gives its approval but the benefit of the 6th Central Pay would be extended with effect from April this year, Inaomacha demanded the Government to bring out a white paper on why the 6th Central Pay should not be implemented along with the arrear.
The Government owes an explanation to its employees on what is the amount of the Non-Plan and the Plan as well as how much is the amount spent on payment of salary, Inaomacha further demanded.
He also made it clear that the agitation would continue until an agreement over the issue.
Apart from taking recourse to various other intense form of agitations, essential services would also be brought under the purview of the ongoing agitation, he announced.
