Imphal, November 17:
Decrying alleged indifferent attitude of the State Government to its long standing demands including extension of service tenure, All Manipur Hill District Contract Basis Teachers Association has warned of launching non-cooperation movement from November 20 if the Govt fails to fulfil the demands at the earliest possible.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at the conference hall of Hotel Excellency today morning, Association president K Haokip recalled that to solve the problem of shortage of teachers in the hill districts, a total of 1332 Arts, Science and Hindi teachers were appointed on contract basis in 2006.Inspite of facing numerous difficulties, these teachers have been working with dedication for the welfare of the students.
However, apart from not denying their salaries for the last 9 months from January to September this year, the Government has not kept its assurance of extending the service tenure of the contract teachers till December, 2007, Haokip lamented.
The Association had submitted many memoranda and representations to the Government in this regard, but no positive response has been received from the side of the Government till date.
It is because of such indifferent attitude of the Government that the future of the students in the hill districts are at stake, Haokip charged.
The Assn would not remain quite and launch non-cooperation movement against the Govt, he said, while announcing boycott of office of Addl Director of Education (Hills) and closure of ZEO office would begin from Nov 20.
