Imphal, September 16 2025:
Ex-Chief Minister N Biren has appealed to all the people to minutely study the speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and what the Governor stated at Churachandpur.
Speaking at the inaugural function of Liangmai Imphal Market at Ideal Club ground, Sagolband Tera today, the ex-Chief Minister exuded confidence that peace and stability would be restored soon.
"The fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Manipur late is another matter but I strongly believe that the Prime Minister's visit will soon bring peace and normalcy in the State," Biren said.
He then appealed to all the people to study minutely the call made by Modi to restore peace and normalcy in the State as well as what Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla stated at Churachandpur.
It is disheartening to note that some Meiteis started using the term "We Meitei" in place of the term "We Manipuri" in the aftermath of the violent crisis which broke out on May 3, 2023, Biren said.
Being a majority, Meiteis have been acting as guardians of Manipur, and as such, the community needs to bring together all other communities, he said.
Biren said that it was the absence of visionary leaders which landed Manipur in the present sorry state.
He went on to claim that the violent crisis erupted as he started working for the present and future generations.
The Prime Minister's statement was very lucid.
The crisis would be brought to an end soon but the core issue will not be compromised, the ex-Chief Minister asserted.
He said that the Liangmais are very close to Manipur and their contributions cannot be forgotten.
Friends are those who stand together at hard times, he added.
There are many historical and sacred sites atop Mount Koubru.
There was a plan to develop the site where gods were said to have Sagol Kangjei.
A road leading to the particular site is being constructed under PMGSY, Biren said.
He said that Keithels or markets took instrumental roles in forging unity and integrity but there is a need for women vendors to be more polite and courteous and refrain from using words which may hurt sentiments of other communities.
Discourteous or offensive words can distance communities, Biren said before lauding the initiative launched today at Tera.
MLA Awangbow Newmai said that the Liangmai community is economically backward and they have been struggling to sell their agricultural produces.
But their difficulties have eased a little following construction of a market at Tamei.
Moreover, a site has been given at Imphal too for the Liangmai people to sell their agricultural produces.
This is a great initiative, he remarked.
Awangbow Newmai also called upon all the indigenous people to identify illegal immigrants and work collectively against drug dealers.
Liangmai Imphal Market Committee chairman Kh Chingkhei Luwangcha, Liangmai Naga Council Manipur president R Machundoubou and Patsoi AC MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor too attended the function as presidium members.
