Following the two bomb attacks at the residential bungalow of the Chief Minister, fresh security steps have been for Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh through deployment commandos in civvies ahead of him wherever he visits.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, a reliable source said in view of increasing threat perception on Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, police commandos in civvies are being despatched ahead of him to ensure his security wherever he goes in any part of the country.
During the course of his participation in the two-day long North East Business Summit which concluded at Guwahati today, a team of police commandos from Imphal East and Imphal West District who are fully aware of the situation in Guwahati was despatched in advance to ensure the security of the Chief Minister.
The commando team on special duty of protecting the Chief Minister was led by GO Commando of Imphal West AK Jhalajit.
The commando team arrived at Guwahati one day ahead of the Chief Minister and in co-ordination with Assam Police put in place necessary security arrangements in and around the place where Ibobi was to stay as well as along the route he would be passing.
It is already in the knowledge of the Home Dept on the presence of many cadres of Manipur-based UG groups taking shelter at Guwahati and State police had gone and arrested some of them on earlier occasions.
After the first attack in November 2006, the residential bungalow of the Chief Minister located in the high security zone of Babupara came under attack for the second time with lethod bomb on the night of September 1 this year.
Following the second attack, the security of the Chief Minister has been stepped up.
The Chief Minister had to even cancel his trip to Churachandpur district where he was due to inaugurate a water supply scheme on September 5 .
