New Delhi, Aug 16:
No legal or disciplinary action would be initiated against BJP MLAs and members who have deserted or are preparing to join other political parties, said BJP national secretary M Bhorot.
Talking to The Sangai Express, Bhorot clarified that the establishment of the Manipur Nationalists Party under the leadership of former member of BJP State unit executive committee Haobam Bhuban after splitting from BJP was neither a result of conflict within the party nor any misunderstanding.
The split was compelled by the prevailing situation within the party and the deserters actually desired to stay with the BJP, Bhorot asserted.
He mentioned that the decision of the BJP State unit legislature wing leader RK Dorendra not to contest elections as BJP candidate but to join the combined regional party or to contest the forthcoming elections on a Congress ticket was also a consequence of the uneasy condition of BJP State unit at present.
Inking into account all these compulsions, the deserters would be provided a room to come back and no disciplinary or legal action would be initiated against them with a view to keep back other members desiring to leave the party, Bhorot disclosed.
It is pertinent to mention here that the president of the newly established Manipur Nationalist Party Haobam Bhuban have submitted written application to the convenor of the preparatory committee of the proposed combined regional party seeking approval to join the combined party.
On the other hand, RK Dorendra has also applied to MPCC to join the party even though the State executive of MPCC has denied his admission.
MLA Bhorot said that even though the former president of BJP State Unit and former Union Minister of State Th Chaoba is the only member from the North East in the BJP national executive committee, no political activities pertaining to the BJP State unit have been entrusted to Th Chaoba.
Reminding of the BJP general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Thawarchand Gehlot's words that a change within BJP State unit was very much likely soon during his visit to the State on August 7, Bhorot appealed to all BJP members and workers to remain peaceful and to bear with the resentments.
