Head mason rescued, 1 held

A combined security team rescued a head mason who was abducted by the cadres of UKLF, a SoO signatory armed Kuki group today.
The security team also arrested a cadre of the outfit in the rescue operation conducted at Molshang village.
United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) is one of the Kuki armed groups which have been under a tripartite Suspension of Operation (SoO) with Central and State Governments.
Speaking to reporters in a press conference held in this regard at Bishnupur district police headquarters, Bishnupur SP Konsam Jayenta said that Oinam Sanatomba Singh (55) of Kyamgei Khoirom Leikai was abducted by 4-5 cadres of UKLF from his work site at Gelmol Lamkhai at around 7.30 pm yesterday.
Oinam Sanatomba is engaged as the head mason for the construction of a culvert at Gelmol Lamkhai, located between Moirang Lamkhai and Churachandpur along NH-150 .
On getting information of the incident this morning, the SP said, a combined security team of Bishnupur district police commandos and soldiers of 16 Maratha Light Infantry swung into action and rescued the head mason from a secluded house at Molshang village at around 12.30 pm today.

The village is located at the west of Tronglaobi village on Thangjang range, he added.
The security team also arrested a UKLF cadre who was there in the house to watch the abducted head mason.
The cadre has been identified as Thangminlen Lhungdim alias Lelen (30) of Churachandpur Tuibong Peace Ground.
One 9 mm pistol and a Honda Activa (MN-01N/1817) which were used in the abduction of Sanatomba were seized from there, the SP said.
On questioning, Jayenta said, Thangminlen admitted that he is an active member of the outfit and three other cadres of UKLF were involved in the abduction of Sanatomba.
The cadres are s/s Sungu area commander, Lt Tilpao Haokip alias Papao (35), finance assistant James of Chandel, now residing at Churachandpur and Mamang Haokip (25) of Koite village of Churachandpur district.
The SP informed the reporters that further investigation is going on and the matter has been intimated to senior police officers.
Taking part in the press conference, Sanatomba said that seven workers including himself have been constructing the culvert since March 2.They all are putting up at the work site, he added.
