The Committee on Mautaam Famine Aid early today flagged off relief materials for thirty granaries identified within the district in a symbolic function here marking the first civilian initiative in lending the Mautaam affected public a helping hand.
The relief materials mainly in rice will be delivered to seven granaries in Henglep sub-division, four in Tipaimukh, five in Thanlon, seven in Singngat and six in Churachandpur with philanthropic organizations of the Kuki, Hmar, Mizo and Zomi tribes serving as the nodal agencies.
Moments before the Additional Deputy Commissioner H Rupachandra who represents the Deputy Commissioner, formally flagged off the relief materials, COMFA Chairman Khen P Tombing called on the government � from top to bottom to be transparent in dispersing Mautaam relief materials.
COMFA has maintained complete transparency all through, likewise the government should be transparent and they should make sure that the relief materials reach the affected people, he said.
Also calling on the armed militants to let the relief materials alone, 'not even a rupee meant for the hungry should be touched,' he said.
Meanwhile, the district Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police today left for a high level security meeting at Aizawl, the capital city of Mizoram.
Though details of the meeting were not available, sources said it was related to the state assembly election there.
