Imphal, June 15:
The Committee of Victims' Families of June 18 have appealed to both the AMUCO and UCM to observe June 18 anniversary at Kekrupat together.
In a session of the Committee held today at Hotel Excellency, the Committee decided not to participate in any of the June 18 observation function organised by AMUCO and UCM but to observe the day on their own in case their appeal goes unheeded.
The session was presided by L Sadananda of Senior Citizens for Society, Prof Ksh Bimola, MK Binodini and Advocate Khaidem Mani.
Speaking on the occasion, G Rajen, father of Gurumayum Dutta, a victim of June 18, conveyed that even as their family was invited every year for the June 18 observation, the family members felt confused over where to go first and where to attend.
The appeal session resolved that the June 18 observance should be held together at Kekrupat rather than at different places.
To keep Kekrupat a sacred site without any organisation claiming it was another resolution.
It further resolved that no family of the June 18 victims would participate in the June 18 observance in case the civil organisations refuse to accept the above two resolutions.
After attending the function organised by UCM, it looked awkward to leave the function midway, while they were considered disrespectful when they arrived late for the function organised by AMUCO.
Highlighting such inconveniences and awkward situations, Rajen appealed for joint observation of the June 18 anniversary.
Asserting that this highly significant observation for the whole State has been reduced to a tug of war between UCM and AMUCO, a mother of another victim Thokchom Lalit, appealed.
