The Joint Action Committee on Demand Appointment for Manipur Police Constable Merit Waiting List has called a State-wide 24 hours general strike from 6 pm of May 16 in protest against alleged discriminatory attitude of the Government.
In a statement, the JAC said it has been constraint to call the strike as the DPC cleared candidates whose names have been recommended and placed in the waiting list of the recruitment conducted in Decem- ber 2004 have not been given the offer forms despite the fact that other selected candidates have already undergone training.
Power blockade: serving an ultimatum to resume electric supply within May 20 in areas covered by the transformer installed at Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, a joint statement issued by six organisations of singjamei area said failure to honour the appeal would result in blockade of National Highway 39 besides other form of intense agitation.
Highlighting that residential areas covered by the said transformer had not been provided electricity for more than two months, the organisations also prevailed upon authority concerned against levying power tax for the mentioned period.
On the otherhand, AMSU Singjamei branch in a release cited inefficiency of Electricity department employees for inability to repair the transformer after the same malfunctioned on March 19.
