A former cadre of the proscribed PLA has been killed in firing by personnel of 7 Assam Rifles last night at Wangoo Lupa Marup which is located about 11 kilometres south-east of Kumbi police station.
The deceased has been identified as Phurailatpam Premananda alias Ibungo (25) s/o Raghumani of Wangoo Lupa Marup, said press source.
A statement issued by PIB (DW) said troopers of Assam Rifles under the aegis of 57 in a counter insurgency operation killed a PLA cadre from whom one 9 mm pistol along with four live rounds were recovered.
The body has been handed over to Kumbi police station.
According to report filed with the Kumbi police station by AR team, based at Sagang, the security personnel swooped to launch search operation at Premananda's place at around 7.30 pm.
On seeing the advancing AR troopers Premananda opened fire and at the same time attempted to breach the security cordon, said the report and added that the attacker was gunned down in retaliatory firing near his own residence.
Providing more input on the incident press source said Premananda, already a married man was arrested earlier in September last year by 7 AR personnel on charges of being a PLA member but was later released on bail.
Premananda left behind his wife and three children the youngest of whom is barely a month old.
The victim's body with 5/6 bullet wounds on chest and abdomen areas has been deposited at RIMS morgue by the police.
As the incident site falls under the jurisdiction of Sugnu police station, Kumbi police reportedly referred the case to their counterparts.
On the otherhand, body of Ningthoujam Ingocha (28) of Nongmaikhong Nongpok Mayai Leikai has been handed over to family members after post mortem was conducted at Lilong PHC yesterday.
