"In Manipur, politics being turned into business needs to be checked by all," said the president of Nationalist Congress Party, (NCP), Manipur Pradesh, Radhabinod Koijam while addressing a political conference of NCP at Ima Nongal Leima Public meeting hall located in Ward No 2 of Thangmeiband assembly constituency today.
The one-day political conference was organised by Thangmeiband Constituency Nationalist Youth Congress Committee.
Radhabinod Koijam maintained that it was true that our forefathers used to describe Manipur as a golden land, since Manipur is endowed with the most favourable factors for human habitation.
Climatic condition in the state is one of the best in the country.
However, he lamented that immature politicians, who have become MLAs after getting rich through contract works, are turning politics into a business.
He cautioned the people to remain alert on such unhealthy trend emerging fast in Manipur.
He also called upon the people to be politically conscious so that a healthy electoral politics exists in the state for a better future.
He strongly denounced the trend of contractors, who became rich quickly and jumped into electoral politics, and became MLA.
He charged that such MLAs openly indulged in corruption disregarding their image and bounden duty as peoples' representatives.
He asked the people to strive for a change adding that electing young people as MLAs who cannot communicate with people from outside the state is a futile step.
He appealed to the people for cooperation in the next general election in which he would be contesting for the last time, and "after that let's find a young person who would be good and acceptable to all the people of the constituency" .
