Kuki outfits reiterate stand on Black Day

Imphal, September 11 2012: Even as the Kuki Inpi, the apex Kuki body has decided to go ahead in observing the "Black Day" or Sahnit on September 13 remembering the Kukis killed in the 1990s ethnic clash with the Nagas, three Kuki militant outfits, United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF), Zou Defence Volunteers (ZDV) and Kuki Revolutionary-United (KRA -U) reiterated their stands not to observe the Black Day.

These three Kuki outfits said they had taken the decision to discontinue the observance of the Black Day after looking the pros and cons and for better understanding in the society for better and healthier society in future and not simply saying for the sake of saying.

"This is not the time to ponder the past and recalling those grievous days which is casting shame on our face, but this is the time to think for greater and higher objectives for a healthy and wealthy society," the three Kuki outfits said today.

They said this is a high time to focus on peace, education, welfare and communal harmony so that the past is not repeated and better future prevails.

"There is no use of remembering the past days when you are being beaten, harrased, torture and killed by your neighbours who are not bigger, stronger and mightier than you.

Indeed it is a total shame on yourself as you are exposing your weakness and timidity to the world.

Everybody has its own weakness and timidness but nobody is exposing it to the sun because it will simply be an invitation to be treated in the like manner in future too," the UKLF, KRA-U and ZDV said in a joint press communique.

All said and done, the worst of it would be instiling ill-feeling against other community(ies) into the minds of young generations which could be a time-bomb that could explode at any time causing damage noy only to the intended group but to the unintended group as well.

The joint press communique then predicts that those who advocate the observance of the day may find many excuses to justify it but the end result would be not good for anybody.

"This is against the true spirit of Christianity.

This is not academic interest to be debated and discussed in any platform as it is a device to revive the past inglorious days where the only two Christian communities in the state were indulging in committing crimes(sins) of the highest degree.

Of course, the ruler of the world of evil and darkness was having a field day through the hands of the some vested people culminating to the extensive and long communal clash between the Nagas and Kukis leading to the lost of so many precious lives," it pointed out.

"Let the bygone be bygone, instead of sitting back and recollecting those ugly days of sins and wrongs doings, let's look up ahead for future co-operation and mutual understanding for building better society," the communique appeals.

The statement then said judging every nook and cranny of the situation, one has taken the decision and accordingly appeals to the Kuki people, particularly those who favour the observance of the day as Kuki Black Day, to discontinue it for better and larger interest of the society. However, it is certain that anybody or group that is not interested in communal harmony will definitely oppose our peace policy.

Here, it is the people to judge which one is the better option between the two, the statement added.

For social apex body like Kuki Inpi, Manipur (KIM), it is not all healthy to stick to the old trend of thinking once seems to be applicable but not now.

In place of focusing on this particular issue, a social body like KIM should have shown itself in a good picture in the peace process instead of showing itself in a poor light, the UKLF, KRA-U and ZDN advised while adding that until and unless the social bodies are deeply involved in peace building effort, the society will find it difficult to build a healthy and prosperous society.

"Thus, we have put forth our view for reducing social animosity for ushering lasting peace but anybody opposing peace and harmony will not be tolerated and the consequences will be their own," they added.
