Imphal, March 11:
The proscribed Peoples' United Liberation Front (PULF) in its first general assembly held somewhere in a State of the North East from March 1 to 3 has elected Md Umar Farooque as its new chairman.
A statement issued by the convenor of the outfit informed that the general assembly was participated by about 218 persons comprising of sympathisers, over ground members, representatives of civil society organisations and its cadres.
Some of the points the general assembly took serious note and deliberated at length were the failure of the outfit to convene a general assembly or a convention in its 13 years of establishment, absence of any record book mandatory for a revolutionary group, failure to frame a constitution etc.
The general assembly also dissolved the nominal committee headed by Md Azad alias Robin besides granting approval to set up several committees necessary for a revolutionary group.
Among 11 functionaries selected for a primary committee, Umar Farooque was elected chairman of PULF.
Addressing the assembly, vice-chairman of the committee, Md Haider Ali declared that unlike in previous during which PULF was functioning under a one-man-committee, the outfit would henceforth work for the common interest of the people of Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, the new chairman Umar Farooque pledged that PULF would make its best efforts to avoid any blunder in future even if certain misdeeds/mistakes were committed in the past.
New initiatives would be taken up to maintain close connections and relationships with the people and other revolutionary outfits, Umar declared.
Conveying best wishes to all the people, the new chairman said that PULF stands for all the people of Manipur and not for a single community or a particular ethnic group.
Asserting that PULF has cadres belonging to different communities, he appealed to the people to extend cooperation and to suggest better ideas from time and time.
All the documents used during the time of 'one man committee' dissolved by the general assembly were also declared invalid henceforth by the chairman.
