Its election time again in the hill districts of Manipur.
Few days after the formal announcement to hold election for the District Councils after two decades of animated suspension, hectic activities preparing for the polls have begun which will be held in two phases with the first one slated for April 18 and the other on April 25 .
Nostalgia has gripped for many with the coming of the District Council election, as it had been some twenty years now that the hill people have been missing.
Three to four tribal villages comprise an average 'constituency' of the Autonomous District Council.
For the tribal populace, this election has been commonly called "MDC" election or Member of District Council election.
The politics crazy tribal people of Manipur have atleast the "MDC" election this time that fills the excitement in the atmosphere in the hill districts.
With this "MDC" election, the tribal people of Manipur will be experiencing elections three years consecutively since last year.
In the year 2007, it was the Assembly election, and this year round it is the "MDC" poll and again, next year, i.e.in 2009, it will be the time for Lok Sabha election.
A year without election will be hard for many people to fill the vacuum and will be definitely at loss, after chains of vigorous elections.
The "MDC" election is the most tense and volatile one of all the elections conducted so far in the hill districts of Manipur.
"Smaller the unit of elections, the more hectic and fiery is the situation," opined an excited ex-MDC from Senapati district with a grin.
