Even as a teenage girl reportedly fell prey to malaria in Kwatha village on April 21 and number of affected persons making a steady rise authorities of Moreh Hospital are still ignorant on the matter.
according to information conveyed by Kwatha locals, the girl Ningthoujam Momu Chanu passed away after eight days of showing symptoms of cerebral malaria.
In addition to over 10 persons currently under medication and more case reported each passing day the villagers are confronted with outbreak of dysentery and diarrhoea diseases which normally accompanies hot weather conditions (seasons).
To cater to medical requirements of around 315 persons in the village there is one nurse and a pharmacist with the latter appointed on contract basis and posted last year to the only Primary health Sub-Centre in the village located about 16 kilometres from Moreh police station.
According to the Pharmacist Ksh shyam singh, the Medical Department had not provided any medicines to the PHSC where malaria outbreak is a seasonal event.
After initial reports of malaria outbreak, Shyam proceeded to Moreh Hospital on April 17 from where he managed to procure three quiroquinine tablets which ironically was to expire in the April month of the current year.
Naturally unwilling to give up without a fight to the curable disease the villagers have been gathering their resources to purchase anti-malaria medicines from Moreh town where it is available in plenty in the pharmacies.
Further maintaining that he had tested blood samples of suspected patients, Shyam said of the many suspects 10 have been confirmed to be malaria case.
Shyam also claimed of higher authorities in the State's Medical Directorate insisting that the newly constructed PHSC be inaugurated after which availability of the medicines could be ensured.
