Imphal, August 06 2010: "Hiroshima Day" the day on which 'Little Boy', the 9,700-pound Uranium bomb, was dropped over the Japanese city was remembered in the state too today like in the other parts of globe.

At 8.15 am on August 6, 1945 Hiroshima time Colonel Paul Tibbets Jr aboard the Enola Gay released 'Little Boy', the 9,700-pound Uranium bomb, over the Japanese city.

It was the first time in world history a nuclear bomb was deployed in warfare.

The 65th year of commemoration of the day in which the initial blast killed over 70,000 including 20 American prisoners of war and another 2,00,000 who probably died due to the long-term effects of radiation was held at Nupi Lal Memorial Complex under aegis of the Indo-Japan Friendship Association.

Observance of two minute silence for the peace of souls of the victims of the most tragic incident of human kind and reading out of Peace Declaration by the president of the Indo-Japan Friendship Association Manipur, N Ibomcha marked the observance function.

Speaking as chief guest at the function, president of Irabot Foundation Manipur, Th Iboyaima recalled the second world which reached Imphal.

Many Japanese soldiers had died on Manipur soil.

"Let us pray for not repeating the incident," he said.

So far as men love each other, a Third World War will not occur.

For the prevalence of peace, loving each other is a must.

Love is the essence for harmonic living.

All people in the globe need to love each other for the prevalence of peace everywhere, he observed.

Former member of the Manipur Human Rights Commission, L Robindro speaking as guest of honour of the function asserted that Japanese are a group of people who love their motherland.

They fought the 2nd World War bravely.

After the tragic bomb dropping incident, efforts are on from every section of the people to keep peace in the globe.

Americans who dropped the bomb also wanted to bring peace by establishing peace keeping forces and sending them to the places where peace is disturbed.

Prizes to the position holders of the painting competition held in connection with the day were also distributed.

On the other hand, The Tamenglong college administrative staff, ministerial staff, teaching staff and students today observed the 65th Hiroshima day in Tamenglong college auditorium with N Daimei, Principal Tamenglong college as chief guest and resolved to oppose and reject any nuclear weapon development by the world of any country.

Led by the chief guest the observance also raised slogans like 'We condemn nuclear weapons' 'We honour Human rights and we love peace'.

According to the principal as many as 3,18,000 souls were lost in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan in the year 1945 following the atom bomb blasts.

The observance was also observed a one minuet silence to show solidarity to the departed souls and in honour to them.
