Chronology of CMs shows, Meetei not communal: ICHAM

Imphal, January 06 2010: The fact that Md Alimuddin, Yangmasho Saiza and Rishang Keishing ruled the state of Manipur as the Chief Minister for many years has proved some people's propaganda that Meeteis were communal wrong, and that the Meeteis had never acted in communal manner, president of Information Centre for Hill Areas, Manipur (ICHAM), N Rajendro (Boi) asserted.

He was speaking at the inaugural function of one day Youth Awareness Camp for Health & Sports cum Cultural Programme held at the Mission Ground Chingai Block in Ukhrul district, 167 km from Imphal, organised by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur yesterday.

Rajendro said, prior to Manipur achieved statehood, the Late Moirang Koireng had recognised Chingai as a block way back in 1969 .

Chingai block is the first place where ICHAM along with newsmen embarked on its mission to get to know the life style of the people living in remote hill areas of Manipur first hand and also to collect reports on what benefits under the various schemes of the government were being received by the people of the the hills, Rajendra said.

Thus, ICHAM along with mediapersons had covered many parts of all the five hill districts of Manipur and had come to know how the people in the hills were living.

These reports had been published in minute details in the newspapers and telecast on television.

Such reports had awaken the state government and inspired the authority to take up the needful in many places in the hill districts, Rajendro (Boi) informed the huge crowd gathered at the Mission Ground Chingai.
