With all the four aspiring candidates not withdrawing their nomination papers till the final hour of the withdrawal period, the by-election to the Yaiskul Assembly Constituency scheduled for December 19 is all set to witness a qaudrangular contest.
Meanwhile, house to house election campaigns for each of the candidates have been steadily picking up.
The candidates who have filed their nomination papers for the by-poll are Elengbam Suraj of Indian National Congress, Soubam Rajendrakumar of Janata Dal (Secular), Hanjabam Jayadeva alias Gandhi (Independent) and Aribam Jagdish (Independent).
Following the expiry of the period given for withdrawal of nomination papers today, the Returning Officer has allotted election symbols to all the four candidates.
Being a Congress candidate, E Suraj's symbol would be palm as usual.
Soubam Rajendrakumar's symbol is a woman carrying fruits/crops on the head.
Candle and basket are the symbols allotted to Hanjabam Jayadeva and Aribam Jagdish respectively.
The symbols were chosen by the candidates themselves during the scrutiny process.
Altogether 23,513 voters would be exercising their franchise rights to elect their representative to the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Out of the total voters of Yaiskul A/C, 10,796 are male while women voters constitute 12,704 .
The number of service voters is 14 .
Yaiskul A/C has 28 polling stations.
Out of these, one polling station has been categorised as hyper-sensitive and eight sensitive while the remaining polling stations have been broadly classified as normal.
The Election Commission has announced that only central para-military forces would be used in the by-poll.
Chandramohon B who has been appointed observer of the by-poll by the Election Commission of India has also already arrived at Imphal.
