Imphal, Aug 01: Observing that it has been three months and a half since Isaac L Hmar was found murdered near a hill at Aizawl, the Hmar Students' Association has conveyed strong resentment against the Mizoram Government for its failure to book the culprits.

Vice-president of HSA GHQs Joseph R Hmar disclosed that the student body would launch a series of agitation to bring justice in the murder case.

The matter would be taken up in its next executive council meeting, he informed.

He also reminded that the Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU) and Hmar Inpui, the apex body of Hmar people, had already urged the Mizoram Government to hand over the case to CBI so that the culprits are booked and punished according to the law at the earliest.

Noting that both the appeals of MUTSU and Hmar Inpui had fallen on deaf ears, Joseph conveyed serious concern over the silence of the Mizoram Government.

Disclosing that HSA has reports of some suspects picked up Mizoram police and released later after interrogation, Joseph flayed the way Mizoram police is treating the case.

He contended that, "since the crime took place in the town itself where the intelligence network should be strong, the police could have rounded up every suspect and brought the case to its logical end".

It may be mentioned here that Issac L Hmar, a research scholar in Manipur University, was information secretary of Hmar Inpui and editor of Hmar yearbook.

Isaac Hmar was found murdered on April 20 this after he was called out by an individual.

As the Mizoram Government has failed to provide any response to the repeated appeals and reminders, the student body is constrained to take up the matter in the next executive council meeting of HSA to be held either at Imphal or Mizoram in October this year, Joseph further informed.

After the meeting, the Mizoram Government would be served an ultimatum to book the culprits failing which it would chalk out its own course of actions to ensure that justice is done in this murder case, he added.
