In a significant move towards revamping adn remodelling works of the Imphal Municipality, the garbage picking work hitherto done by the IMC has been privatised.
This was disclosed by Chief Minister O Ibobi while speaking at a blood donation camp organised by 128 Bn CRPF in commemoration of its 16th raising day at their camp at Mongshangei.
Saying that the privatisation process could have been completed much earlier but for the election code of conduct, the Chief Minister informed that necessary tender to hand over the garbage picking work to private firm (s) has also been completed.
To encourage private firm (s), the State Government is offering Rs 19 lakhs to the successful bidder.
As per the clauses of the privatisation initiative, the successful private firm entrusted to clean up garbage would pick up garbage from all the households located within Imphal Municipal Council area.
Domestic wastes are presently being dumped on the roads.
The State Govt has already given financial concurrence to this privatisation move, said the CM.
He further declared that the octroi tax collected by the Imphal Municipal Council has also been abolished.
