The JAC against the delay in completion of Salathong bridge has warned of launching various intense agitations including imposition of bandh if the construction of the bridge which began in 2005 is not completed by April this year.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at Social Standard Club, Khurai Nandeibam Leikai, N Hera, president of the JAC formed by local people, pointed out that the reconstruction of the bridge, which is a very important one for the people of Khurai Assembly Constituency began in 2005.But has been no sign of completion inspite of that fact that many bridges including the one Khurai Lamlong, whose construction works started much later have already been completed and thrown open to the public.

Demanding to know the reason behind the inordinate delayed in completion of the bridge, Hera conveyed that the JAC would be taking assistance of Right to Information Act if the contractor and the Department concerned fail to come up with a explanation to the people.
Recalling that during the course of an inspection, Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Shyamkumar had given the assurance to the local that the bridge would be completed by April 2009, the JAC president disclosed that the contract of the work is in the name of Shyamkumar but it is being executed by one sub-contractor identified as Ch Iboyaima.
Serving April this year as the deadline for completing the bridge construction work, the JAC has warned of taking recourse to various intense agitations including imposition of bandh if construction of the bridge is not completed in the upcoming working season.
