Imphal, Aug 31: Asserting that both the question papers of Manipuri subject of MPSC main exam 2006 did not abide by the guidelines laid down by the Extra Ordinary Manipur Gazette 2005 published by the State Govt, DESAM has demanded the needed rectification before the matter blows out of proportion.

The student body further asked the MPSC Chairman to come out with definite justifications at the earliest.

Speaking to reporters today at the office of DESAM, its secretary NC Santosh alleged that the setting of questions and allotment of marks in the Manipuri papers of MPSC main exams were beyond the guidelines laid down by Manipur Gazette 2005.According to the Extra Ordinary Manipur Gazette 2005 published on June 26 last year, the total number of questions for the optional subject of MPSC main examinations should be eight carrying equal marks.

Out of the eight questions, only five should be attempted, quoted Santosh.

In total disregard of the guidelines, there were 10 questions in Manipuri paper I and 11 questions in paper II of the MCS exam conducted by MPSC from August 4 to 17, he noted.

Moreover some questions carried 60 marks while others carried 45 marks contrary to the gazette guidelines which said that all the questions should carry equal marks, he added.

Not only that, the candidates were asked to attempt six questions in each paper which is again a violation of the given guidelines.

Taking strong exception to such non-compliance of guidelines, NC Santosh questioned whether such blunders were intentionally done by MPSC to put off declaration of the results indefinitely.

Quoting the second question under (1), of Manipuri paper I, Santosh questioned the meaning of 'tone of Manipuri language' (meiteirongi tone).

When Manipuri language was included in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution, the language was not recognised as Meiteiron but as Manipuri language, said Santosh while contending that people don't refer to the language as Meiteiron which has the implication of belonging only to Meitei community.

He added that the Manipuri Department is never referred to as Meiteilon Department.

He further observed that no such word as Meiteilon was found in the Manipur Gazette.

In the official paper too, it is referred to as Manipuri language.

He reiterated the demand that the State Government should make a positive arrangement to rectify the flaws and the MPSC Chairman should give plausible justifications at the earliest while warning that the DESAM would initiate actions against all those concerned if their demands are gone unheeded.
