Health Minister L Nandakumar today informed the House that the Government would be taking up necessary measures to look into the complaints raised against the conduct of the entrance examination for PG/MD/MS courses at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
The Minister was responding to a call attention motion moved by MLA I Hemochandra.
Taking into account a news report published in The Sangai Express, the MLA said the conduct of the entrance examination held recently at RIMS for PG/MD/MS courses was not only in accordance to the laid down norms of Medical Council of India (MCI), but also gave lot of room for favouritism and corruption.
Question papers were not provided to the candidates and selection of the right answer was done with a simple encircling on the answer sheets, the MLA said, adding that such arrangements provide ample scope for manipulation.
Some of the selected candidates who could not appear for the counselling due to the bandh called were also not given a second chance for counselling, he alleged.
Ruling of any sort of interference from the side of the Government, the Minister asserted that the entrance examination had been conducted by RIMS in accordance to rule no.9 of MCI.
RIMS authorities have been contacted on the allegations and the latter categorically ruled out any discrepancies, the Minister informed the House.
RIMS authorities maintained that the examination was conducted strictly in accordance to the laid down norms of MCI and candidates have been selected on merit basis, the Minister said, while clarifying that the delayed in commencement of the examination was due to some technical problem and none of the relatives of the candidates were among the examiners.
