Volunteers of Joint Famine Relief Committee for Tamenglong distributed 220 quintals of paddy and 125 bags of rice containing 50 kgs each as relief measures during the last 2/3 days to the people of Tamenglong Dist who are currently facing a famine like situation due to the large scale destruction of crops by rodents last year.
It may be noted here that the committee comprises of AMUCO, AMESCO, Manipur Trucks Owners' Welfare Assn (MTOWA), Manipur Drivers' Welfare Association (MDWA) and Zeliangrong Union Imphal Zone.
The relief materials were donated by various organizations/clubs of the State through the committee.
The distribution of relief material in Tamenglong dist is being under taken under the guidance of AMUCO's advisor Ito Tongbram, Gen Secy NC Khuman, AMESCO's Vice president NS Guite, MTOWA's secretary Y Lokeshwor, MDWA's secretary Ibohal and ZU chairman R Chandra Haomei.
The relief materials were distributed at nine different places for the people of Nungba Sub division, Tousem Sub Division and 37 viillages under Tamenglong HQs.
The nine places are Tupul Bazar, Awangkhul, Nungba Bazar, Siguilong, Kaimai Kuki, Goinanglong (Oinamlong), Longkao, Kai Phundai and Longmai (Noney).
Talking to mediapersons during the distribution of relief materials, AMUCO's advisor Ito Tongbram said that the relief measures distributed to the people of Tamenglong dist are nothing but a token of love from the valley people.
He also stated that the people of Manipur should stand united in this time of distress and face the difficulties unitedly and not treat the famine like situation at Tamenglong Dist as an isolated incident.
Peaceful coexistence, unity and equal development among the different communities of the State is the aim of AMUCO, informed Ito.
AMUCO's gen secy NC Khuman who also interacted with mediapersons urged the State Govt to take up appropriate relief measures immediately before the situation gets out of control.
Appealing to the Dist's Civil Supply agents to be more transparent and sincere in their works, Khuman informed that the committee's members would start inspecting their works very soon to curb all malpractice.
Nungba Area Village Authority Council chairman Nampou while expressing his gratitude to the valley brethern for their help in such time of difficulties stated that such actions will surely strengthen the bond between the people of the hills and the valley which have been existing since time immemorial.
