Imphal, June 14: Assam Regiment will be celebrating its 64th Raising Day at Happy Valley, Shillong on June 16, informed a PIB statement.

Assam Regiment which was raised by Lt Col Ross Howmanon June 16, 1941 at Elephant Falls in Shillong has grown into a family of 13 infantry battalions, three Rashtriya Rifles unit and infantry battalion of the territorial army.

Comprising exclusively of troops from the seven North Eastern States, the regiment has established itself as a highly regarded infantry regiment of the Indian Army.
