Imphal, August 25:
Refuting the charges of Sekmai A/C MLA that a number of high profile political figures are involved in hijacking fertiliser laden trucks and take them to their respective constituencies, Convener of SPF Government MLA Dr M Nara described it as gibberish.
Addressing a press conference at Irabot Bhavan today, Dr Nara said levelling such baseless charges even as the Government has been trying its best to solve the problem of shortage of fertiliser in the State is very unfortunate.
It will do nothing towards ameliorating the problems of the farmers, he said, while asserting that the present fertiliser crisis is a direct fallout of the recent blockade imposed on the National Highways.
He also demanded an explanation from MLA Biren and warned that necessary action would be initiated against him if he fails to do so.
With specific reference to the charge that 43 truck loads of Urea have been taken to Thoubal district by MLAs and Ministers by waylaying the trucks before reaching Sekmai, Dr Nara clarified lhat he knew nothing about it as he was in Delhi from August 7 to 15 to attend the National Council meeting of CPI.
However, he admitted that there was one instance in which he had procured some bags of fertiliser from a dealer to distribute among the farmers of his Constituency.
'On the contrary, I was informed by MLA Nimaichand Luwang that MLA Biren had forcefully stopped all the fertiliser laden trucks at Sekmai Bazar on August 14 and distributed the same to the people, Dr Nara said.
It is very likely that the present fertiliser crisis is being caused by some selfish profit-minded black marketers and it should be stopped instead of trading charges, Dr Nara observed, adding that everybody, including MLAs, Ministers and voluntary organisations should join hand in this effort.
