Imphal, December 17: A team of Imphal East district commando arrested a PREPAK cadre from near JN Hospital, Porompat this morning.

The arrested UG activist has been identified as Shamulailatpam Joykumar Sharma alias Arangba alias Ibungo (31) s/o S Baldev of Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai.

Briefing reporters at the office chamber of Imphal East SP L Kailun, the district's commando OC Mobi said security personnel in plain clothes were deployed in and around Khurai Ningthoubung area where some gun shots were heard last night.

As information culled from the area indicated presence of UG elements commando forces were requisitioned after which a search operation was launched this morning resulting in arrest of Joykumar from a paddy field while trying to breach the security cordon.

The OC further conveyed of Joykumar being a former member of RPF/PLA in the late nineties before joining PREPAK this year through one Pocha.

One M-20 pistol along with a magazine and one live round has been recovered from the captive, said the OC and added that during preliminary interrogation Joykumar disclosed of a being team member which was assigned to attack S Kumar Acupressure Hospital located near the JN Hospital as the medical centre was alleged of duping customers and practicing immoral acts.
