Imphal, September 15:
With the inclusion of drain provision in the work programme of the Singjamei Chingamakhong Urban Health Centre the newly constructed UHC will be inaugurated soon, said Health Minister L Nandakumar.
Insisting that drain construction works would be expedited for early inauguration of the health centre, the Minister said strong instructions have been issued to the PWD to complete the work at the earliest.
Mention may be made that a dispensary building was dismantled to make way for UHC at the same site with the work completed in October, 2002 itself.
However, absence of drain provision had resulted in delay of its inauguration.
Acknowledging necessity of drainage system to ensure cleanliness and hygienic conditions in and around the health centre, Nandakumar expressed confidence of dedicating the centre to the public without further delay.
A Health Department source cited procedural lapses in releasing departmental allocation as main cause for absence of drain provision for the UHC while adding that following public objection on kacha drain construction the work had to be abandoned till the recent provision of drain cost in the work programme.
Regarding staff strength the source contemplated that medical personnel allocated during the then dispensary might be retained while not ruling out possibility of increasing the staff number according to requirement.
It is also worth mentioning that local residents concerned at dumping of waste at the UHC entrance had convened a meeting on September 4 leading to formation of Singjamei UHC Development and Protection Committee to chalk out and adopt necessary measures.
