At least two persons have been killed and four others seriously injured when a passenger carrier (Canter) plunged into Kekrupat in North AOC due to mechanical failure.
Main cause of the fatal mishap which took place at around 5.40 this morning is said to be dislocation of the front wheel when the vehicle was accelerating towards Minuthong.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration No MN01-0917 is informed to be owned by one Ningthoujam Brojen of Khurai Thongam Leikai and servicing between Imphal and Yumnam Khunou.
While identity of one of the deceased could be established as Arambam Ningthemjao (65) of Yumnam Khunou Puthiba Lampak the other had been kept at RIMS for necessary medical procedure and identification.
Passengers, who sustained injuries and had been admitted to JN Hospital are named as Md Amuba (18) of Khurai Heikrumakhong, Md Nazir (25) of Irong Heirong Makhong, Arjun (25) of Lalambung Makhong and Y Bijli (27) of Yaiskul.
Personnel and machines of the State Fire Service Department were pressed to rescue the entrapped passengers as well as the vehicle.
