As in the last four years, the Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Imphal East has remanded hunger striker Irom Chanu Sharmila to judicial custody for 15 days.
On October 1, the same Court released Sharmila from custody on the ground that she had completed her stay in judicial custody for one year, the punishable term for offence u/s 309 IPC (Attempt to commit suicide).
Soon after her release, Sharmila took off her nasal feeding pipe and staged a sit-in-protest near her Kongpal Konkham Leikai residence.
Apprehensive that her health would deteriorate, Porompat police picked her up on health ground in the evening of October 1 and put her again at the JN hospital security ward.
Late in the same night, the police arrested her again after registering a fresh FIR u/s 309 IPC sources said.
She was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Imphal East who remanded her to judicial custody for another 15 days.
Sharmila has been on a fast unto death agitation since November 2000 after the Assam Rifles mowed down numerous civilians at Malom.
