Imphal, September 30:
Having established the guilt of Kh Henry in the gruesome murder of S Punam, convenor of the JIC Lt Sunil set the record straight and made it clear that it is not in the principle of PREPAK to shield any guilty cadre.
Talking to the media somewhere at Churachandpur yesterday, the convenor said that the JIC had to take time to get to the bottom of the matter and establish the facts before coming out with a report.
The angst of the people over the incident is understandable and PREPAK fully emphatises with the sentiments of the people, he claimed.
Till date, PREPAK has never ever shielded any guilty person and a thorough probe and investigation is always conducted whenever any allegations are raised, said Sunil and added punishment is given according to the gravity of the crime.
The guilty, Kh Henry came to PREPAK from another group, he said and added that he had not even received any training under the outfit.
At best his service was utilised for errands and to pass on information and news.
At times he was also asked to escort people.
He was someone like a local volunteer or worker, added Sunil.
He was never entrusted with any important task by the party.
However since it is known to all that Henry worked with PREPAK cadres, the outfit thought it fit to dispense justice instead of handing the case to another group.
As soon as the news of the death of the girl reached the outfit, Henry was summoned he said and added that the accused did nothing to arouse suspicion but came.
PREPAK soon started investigating but as news and information started doing the round it took sometime to crack the case, he admitted.
At this juncture, UNLF also approached PREPAK and highlighted the need to find out the facts.
Accordingly an agreement was reached between the leaderships of the two outfits to form a Joint Inquiry Committee on September 24, he informed.
PREPAK also did not want to settle case alone and welcomed the initiatives shown by the UNLF, he added.
After establishing the facts of the case, the JIC sent its report to the authority of the outfit and the leadership instructed to give fitting punishment to the culprit, Sunil further informed.
The convenor of the JIC also expressed his profound gratitude to the members of the JIC, NGOs, JACs and individuals and others in helping them to crack the case and nail the guilty.
