Imphal, January 27:
A three day long golden jubilee celebration of Moyon Naga Students' Union kicked off at Kapaam Village ground, Chandel today.
The event was attended by Lok Sabha MP Mani Charenamei, BAP president R Jindashing and Kapaam village chief Cr Nitor as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The cultural exhibition organised as a part of the golden jubilee celebration was also opened by the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion Mani Charenamei said that it would be big mistake if one sticks to the notion that education is meant to get only Government jobs.
Through education one should strive for development of his/her locality by bringing in new and better ideas.
As such students should concentrate on their studies so that they can lead the people on the right path, the MP exhorted.
He noted that it's time to introspect on the prevailing education system in the interior areas of hill districts.
Stressing on the need to bring about a quality based education system so that the students of the State can succeed in today's competitive world, the MP observed that it is the collective responsibility of teachers, student bodies, parents, guardians and related Departments of the Government to bring about quality education in the State.
Moreover, people should analyse the education system followed in neighbouring States.
Saying that the education system in Nagaland is being implemented properly, the MP said that the number of students admitted in private schools of the neighbouring State was relatively very low.
Moreover, students don't face much difficulty when they go to other States for higher studies as the medium of instruction there is English.
Charenamei asserted that the education system followed in the State was one of the primary reasons for the majority of students opting for private schools.
On the opening day of the golden jubilee celebration today, cultural programmes were presented by cultural troupes of Thangkim and Khungjuur village.
