According to an official source, the basic objective of the NEC summit is to facilitate closer ties with ASEAN and SAARC Nations in the field of trade and investment and also to tap the potential of the North East region by promoting private investments.
The two day summit would be attended by Governors and Chief Ministers of North Eastern States.
Being organised in the backdrop of the Look East Policy, the summit will focus on tourism, food processing, power, infrastructure, information technology, handloom and cottage
industry.

The session is aimed at fostering mutual cooperation with Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia and Philippines, informed the source.
Undeterred by the lukewarm response it got during the last three NEC summits on account of its discouraging law and order situation, inadequate power supply and infrastructure, the State Government has made all preparations to lure private investors in such sectors as horticulture/floriculture, sericulture, medicinal and aromatic plants, IT, food processing, tourism and infrastructure.
Meanwhile, in connection with the upcoming NEC summit, a meeting attended by officials of Departments who will participate in the summit was held today with Director of Planning Department K Mangi in the chair.
