Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has stated on the concluding day of the Assembly session today that rationalisation of teachers in all the schools of the State is under active consideration of the Government.
The total number of staff strength school-wise (teaching and non-teaching staff) both in the hills and plain would be ascertained after the ongoing exercise of manipur Government Employees' List (MGEL) is finalised, he said in response to a question from independent MLA Dr Khasim Ruivah during the question hour.
On supplementary queries, the CM said of the total number of school teachers 70 percent are untrained while the remaining are trained ones and pointed to shortage of teachers' training institutes and low intake capacity to train teachers as factors responsible for low number of trained teachers in Government schools.
Insisting that the appointed teachers would be extended BEd training, O ibobi also conveyed instruction of Ministry of human Resource Development on necessity for the teachers to be trained ones.
On being questioned by RK Anand of the MPP, the CM said the Government Polytechnic following pattern of All India Council for Technical Education (AITCE) has an annual intake capacity of 180 seats including 60 for civil engineering, 40 in electrical engineering, mechanical (20) and 30 each for electronics and pharmacy.
The CM informed the house that steps are on to implement the Assured Career progression schemes.
