An IRB driver attached to Bishnupur district police has been killed while five persons, including an SI suffered injuries following attack by unidentified gunmen near the approach road of Thanil Kabui village at around 6.40 pm today.
According to press source, a security team consisting of commando personnel under the command of Bishnupur police station's OC were part of a security team deployed to safeguard Oinam assembly constituency MLA Radhakishore's attendance to a function in Irengbam.
After the function the OC reported to the Bishnupur district's SP in-charge when several bursts of gunfire and bomb blast were heard.
Reports conveyed to the police station mentioned of one Romi (IRB driver) of commando SI Debendra killed in the attack instantly.
The SI along with constable Thengjang Haokip of Keithelmanbi, Chungkham Ingobi of Lamlai (2nd IRB) were wounded and rushed to RIMS out of whom Ingobi has been shifted to Shija Hospital as he suffered head injuries.
On the way to hospital, a police vehicle evacuating the injured rammed at two persons riding a moped at Malom Bazar.
The injured civilians have been identified as Chingakham Bijen (23) and Wahengbam Biswarup (23) of Takyel Kolom Leikai.
The Thanil village attack also injured two women named as Yumnam Ibetombi (45) w/o Manihar of Bishnupur Ward No V and Ningthoujam Memcha (45) w/o Ibomcha also from the same locality as Ibetombi.
Soon after receiving information of the attack another police team led by SDPO Isak rushed to the scene but a civilian vehicle tripped over an explosive device that exploded and injured a police driver identified as Oinam Dhanabir of Thanga.
