Imphal, June 20 2009:
Considering the manner in which the State Vigilance Department has been probing misappropriation case of around Rs 10 lakhs in the name of repairing office building and purchasing 14 computer sets for Manipur Industrial Development Corporation (MANIDCO), Takyel, it is doubtful the probe could come up with factual details of foul play, said Commerce and Industries Minister Y Erabot.
The Vigilance Department has been investigating the case following public complaints that there was no repairing and that the number of computer sets supplied was short of the actual number specified even though the amount sanctioned for repairing and procurement of computer sets had been already withdrawn.
On his inspection visit to MANIDCO office today, Erabot observed that repairing work was starting.
He immediately banned the repairing work and directed the concerned officials to keep the office locked.
He questioned as to how the repairing work was allowed when the Vigilance Department was conducting enquiry.
On searching the purchased computer sets, only five computer sets were found, two in first floor and another three in second floor rooms.
Further enquiry revealed that one computer set was in the room of Managing Director O Dhaneshwar located at State Guest House and another in the quarter of MANIDCO Chairman and MLA Mangi at Babupara.
Later speaking to media persons, Minister Erabot questioned the failure of Vigilance Department to seize purchased computer sets.
He even evinced suspicion whether the MANIDCO Managing Director and the Vigilance Department have any understanding.
Under such circumstances, it was hard to expect the Vigilance Department to come up with factual details of the fund misappropriation case.
