Imphal, April 20 2010: Locals of Soibam Leikai in Imphal east today beaten up an extortionist blue and black and handed over to the Porompat Police Station, another escaped.

The incident occurred at about 9.30 am when two youths in a motorcycle entered to the house of one Maibam Tombi, an electrician of the state Irrigation and Flood Control Department and threatened with bullets to meet their extortion demand.

He is also doing business.

Reports said that one of the two youths entered to the house of Tombi and asked for him who was not at home at the time.

When the elder sister of Tombi told them he was out of home, the youth took out two bullets and asked the woman to receive the bullets and contact them to a mobile number given by him.

When the woman refused to receive the bullets, a heated argument erupted between the two as a result of which family members inside the house and locals rushed and caught the youth.

On seeing crowd the other youth who was nearby the motorcycle escaped.

Locals beaten up the youth badly and handed over to the police later, local reports said.

Police refused to identify the youth and the outfit responsible for sending him to the house stating that verification is on.

However, locals suspect the two youths belongs to a group of KCP.

Meanwhile, suspected militants performed a failed bomb attack at the house of an officer of the state agriculture department at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai under Imphal police station of Imphal west last night.

Local reports said that the failed bomb attack was performed last night at about 11 pm apparently in connection with monetary demand from the officer.

A police team defused the bomb safely and taken into custody.

Decrying the attack at the house of the officer, Longjam Ibomcha and alleging that the incident has caused panic to the residents, a sit in protest was staged at the locality.

They lamented the act of the militants and asked whether they are struggling for sovereignty or for amassing wealth of their own by collecting money by threatening people.
