Imphal, November 18:
The claim of regional party MPP that it has become a strong political force after merger of several other parties into it is null and void, dismissed Chief Minister O Ibobi while declaring that it (MPP) would never come to power.
Speaking at a Congress workers' conference held at at Takyel Kolom Leikai, Chief Minister O Ibobi noted that even as the regional parties have unified together, the combined party is yet to establish its presence in all the 60 Assembly segments of the State, particularly in the hill districts.
Even if they are fortunate enough to get elected to power, its Government would not last long due to internal wrangling for power and Ministership without any concern for the State, predicted Ibobi.
Hinting that the MPCC vice-president and chairperson of Manipur Women's Development AK Mirabai would be granted Congress ticket for the upcoming Assembly elections, the Chief Minister said that it would not be a problem for her to get a ministerial berth provided she gets elected.
Addressing the conference, Lok Sabha MP (Outer Manipur) Dr T Meinya said that all the Congress workers need to collectively challenge the diktats of an underground organisation concerning their proclamation that no one should cast votes in favour of National political parties.
Saying that the political career of former Deputy Chief Minister Dr L Chandramani, elected from Patsoi Assembly constituency was over, Meinya said that people should remind him of this fact if he fails to realise the end of his political career himself.
Noting that the Congress-led SPF Government could be considered as fortunate, the MP, nevertheless, acknowledged certain difficulties and restrictions in terms of State administration and framing policies and programmes because of the Ministry being a coalition one.
As such, Congress workers should ensure a Congress exclusive Government in the next five years to avoid similar limitations and complications, remarked Dr Meinya.
AK Mirabai also spoke in the conference organised by the Patsoi Block Congress Committee.
