Imphal, May 18:
Though the Chairman of the NSCN (K) SS Khaplang is not averse to unity and reconciliation among the Nagas, he has put down certain practical conditions based on the principle of Naga sovereignty.
Moreover, he conveyed reluctance to go ahead with the unification move citing bitter experiences in the past.
This was disclosed by the Chairman himself to a delegation sent by the Council of Kilonsers specifically to seek the opinion of the Chairman on the call by many Nagas for unity and reconciliation among different groups.
A statement issued by Dy Kilonser, Ministry of Kilo Affairs GPRN Y Wangtin Naga clarified that the Chairman never said that unity should be without Tangkhuls or with the Tangkhuls.
On the other hand, the Chairman stated that there should be no speculation by any individual or group on the issue.
Reacting with disdain to the statement of the Telegraph correspondent supplementing some of the writings purportedly issued by NISC, which appeared in the local papers on May 14 wherein he mentioned the names of the leaders Ato Kilonser N Nitovi Zhimomi, Convenor of the Council of Kilonsers AZ Jami and Supervisor of the CFSB Kughalu Mulatonu on the unity issue, the outfit asserted that the report filed by the Telegraph correspondent was a deliberate attempt to sow seeds of discord and division among the NSCN leaders.
It also suggested that media persons must be more careful and constructive while writing political matters.
Further deriding the writings of Timothy Kaping Tangkhul in the name of NISC in the local dailies wherein he put so many queries to the NSCN on the issue of unity and reconciliation, it reminded that the outfit had warned Timothy not to meddle with the affairs of the Nagas with his evil motives.
Even as the NSCN needs national and international support for its cause, it would not be acceptable to the outfit if the NISC and NSG (in case they exist in reality) cannot maintain neutrality and go on encouraging and abetting more killings among the Nagas, concluded Wangtin.
