Imphal, August 16:
Opposing the decision of the State Government to build the National Institute of Technology at Langol, a mass rally will be taken out tomorrow under the aegis of the JAC for Protection of 91Meitei Langol Patta Land/Residential Areas.
The rally will start from THAU ground and converge at Langol Shija Hospital junction after passing through the main streets of Imphal where a public meeting will be held, said JAC secretary CS Khongsai.
The resolutions adopted in the meeting will be submitted to the Chief Minister, he added.
Describing Langol as a mini-Manipur with different communities settled together, JAC chairperson Kim Gangte cautioned that it would be a blunder for the State Government to displace the people of the area who have been living together in harmony and perfect amity.
The existing area of Meitei Langol extends from Langol Lairembi temple to the Lanthum Ching.
The settlement established in 1987 has 317 patta plots with houses and 278 patta plots without houses.
The total population of the area is 2160.Altogether 9 schools, both recognised and non-recognised, four orphan homes, two community halls, 31 churches and two temples are located in the area.
Observing that there are many suitable locations for the proposed NIT in hill districts, Kim Gangte noted that a strong emotional integrity can be realised if the proposed institute is located in one of the hill districts.
