Imphal, June 15: Yet another fresh set of skeletons have come tumbling out of Manipur University, this time in the form of fake purchases in four Departments, Life Science, Computer Science, Chemistry and Biotechnology.

Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, a reliable source said that following the detection of the fake purchases, a meeting of the Deans and Heads of Departments was held on June 8 at 2.30 pm and the Committee Room with the VC in the chair.

After a thorough discussion of the case, the meeting decided that all the Heads of Departments concerned, the Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dean of Social Sciences should be made to make the items so purchased available at the store of the respective Departments or return the equivalent value in cash or provide glass ware equivalent to the value of the fake purchases latest by June 30 this year.

The source further said that the meeting also heard the pressure mounted on the officials concerned which even went to the extent of causing them physical harm.

The pulled up officials also expressed regret for the fake purchases during the meeting, said the source.

It was also further decided that two firms involved in the supply of the items would be black listed and all business deals with them will be cancelled in the future.

The two firms are, Max House and Computer Gallery, said the source.

The Vice Chancellor also assured the members present at the meeting that a proposal would be moved in the Executive Council to curtail the financial powers of the Pro Vice Chancellor.

Efforts to contact the VC and Registrar drew blank.
