In a significant development, Human Rights Alert (HRA) has petitioned the ongoing Rajkhowa Commission probing into the alleged mass rape of Hmar women by UNLF and KCP cadres to examine the cadres of the two outfits through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to ascertain the truth and also to do justice to the victims.
A petition to this effect has been put placed before the Commission which resumed its sitting at Churachandpur district headquarters from today.
Executive Director of HRA Babloo Loitongbam filed the petition with a prayer for taking up necessary measures to secure the attendance of the alleged perpetrators of the crime through the ICRC, said Advocate Rakesh Meihoubam, who is appearing on behalf of HRA.
An order in this regard might be passed by the commission soon, he added.
Earlier the probe panel, accepted another petition of HRA to recall the alleged victims and other witnesses so far examined at Parbung and Lungthulien sitting for the purpose of cross examination for the ends of justice.
The Commission has also agreed to the prayer of the HRA to issue summons to SP Churachandpur, OC Parbung and SDPO Taipaimukh Sub-Division to examine them as Commission�s witness, Rakesh added.
Two other petitions have also been reportedly filed before the Commissioner today by Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) through its president Sapamcha Kangleipal.
The petitioner being a party to the proceeding is desirous to have copies of the statements of each of the witnesses examined by the Commission to acquaint itself in effective participation it the probe proceedings, MAFYF�s first petition said.
