Imphal, August 14 2010: Troops of 4/8 Gorkha Rifles under the aegis of the Red Shield Division, apprehended one hardcore cadre of UNLF from Nambol Kamong in a joint operation with Bishenpur Police Cdos.

The arrested cadre has been identified as MPA No 1500, SS L/Cpl O Manichandra @ Oinam Anand @ Angouton (22), son of Budhi Meitei of Thanga Oinam Mayai Lekai.

A press release from PIB (DW) informed that during spot interrogation, the individual revealed that he was working for UNLF since 2008, and he had come to the area to plant an IED on NH 150 before Independence Day which he had hidden near the place of his arrest.

The IED was recovered by the team.

The cadre had used 5 Kg of TNT to make the IED which was a pressure switch operated IED.

It was then destroyed at a safe place near N Khunau village.

Further interrogation revealed that the individual was also involved in an explosion of a IED near LDA Complex in Loktak Power Project Colony on January 21 this year.

In another incident, 4/8 Gorkha Rifles of Red Shield Division arrested another cadre of UNLF from Yumnam Khunou.

He has been identified as Maibam Inao Singh @ Inaoba (30), son of M Chaoba of Porompat Wakha, Imphal East.

He had joined the outfit in 2008, did his training in Mayanmar and presently working actively in Finance Department of UNLF.

He was behind all the extortion demands of the outfit in Bishenpur, the press release claimed.
