Imphal, June 14:
Even though MPCC (I) chief Gaikhangam accompanied by some MLAs including I Hemochandra and Govindas Konthoujam met AICC president Sonia Gandhi under the shadow of speculations of stand with Chief Minister O Ibobi, nothing substantial relating to intra party issues of the State Congress unit was discussed.
Talking to The Sangai Express a reliable source said that though intra-party matter was not discussed minutely, the deteriorating law and order situation came up for discussion during the meeting.
To a direct question on whether the question of effecting a change in leadership was put before the AICC president, the source said that nothing of that sort was discussed or brought up for discussion.
On the other hand any matter relating to the State Congress unit will be discussed in the presence of Oscar Fernandes, who is the Secretary in charge of Congress in the North East.
The source further said that Oscar Fernandes is expected to arrive today evening from a foreign tour and added that Gaikhangam and the Chief Minister will meet Fernandes in the presence of Sonia Gandhi separately.
However it is still not clear when the meetings will take place.
Significantly, Chief Minister O Ibobi and Gaikhangam dashed to Delhi after the results of the by elections to Khangabok AC and Khundrakpam AC were announced on June 2.
While Ibobi had to rush back to Imphal following the outbreak of violence at Moreh, Gaikhangam stayed put at Delhi and met Sonia Gandhi yesterday.
Meanwhile Chief Minister O Ibobi will leave for New Delhi tomorrow to meet the AICC leadership, while Governor Dr SS Sidhu who is presently outside the State is expected to return on June 21.
